Rockford Speedway - Dr. Ken Johnson drilled the competition after coming from his last row start to the front in the 440 Modified feature. The main event went caution free as Bill Trusky of Silver Lake, WI lead the field until Johnson reeled him in for the pass with six laps remaining. Johnson had fuel problems during qualifying which gave him the last place start in the alcohol burning modifieds. Trusky finished second with Joe Miller, Phillip Schultz and Richard Musgrave Des Plaines, IL rounding out the top five.

SEPTEMBER 28, 2001 Lake Geneva WI - Coming into tonights racing, Ken Johnson of Paddock Lake, held a narrow 100 point advantage over Joe Miller of Kenosha who won the Herbs mini modified championship non-stop feature for 15 laps. Johnsons 3rd in time and fifth in the main event was enough to put the veteran driver over the top one more time in a close point battle that went down to the last night. The mini modified championship started off with some four deep racing action first night driver Tony Gamba had problems early and dropped out on lap three. Rich Musgrave led the opening lap before Joe Miller darted in front. The race for any position wasnt over until the checkered flag after fast timer Mike VanHouten chased Miller the whole first half of the race. Roy Morrison took over second with just three laps to go. Miller claimed the win with Morrison, Hermie Schultz, VanHouten and Ken Johnson rounding out the top five. Lake Geneva, WI - It was the final night of the weekly Friday night 2001 race program at Lake Geneva Raceway. Ken Johnson of Paddock Lake is making sure he has a cushion in the season points that end September 28th. as the defending Herbs mini modified champion took a clean sweep. Only the rookies had problems in the mini modified feature as Bill Trusky grabbed the lead at the off set of this feature.Rich Musgrave gave the leader lots of pressure until lap six when fast timer Ken Johnson inched by. Three laps later it was all Johnson again taking the victory six laps later with Trusky second Mike VanHouten a close third Roy Morrison fourth and Joe Miller fifth. It was announced that the awards banquet now with a point fund for regular divisions would be Saturday night January 19th. at Rampoles banquet facility in Twin Lakes. The mini modified championship will be Friday night September 28th, part of the Small Car World championship. Click here to see the race results ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- August 24, 2001 JOHNSON WINS FEATURE WITH EASE, AS MILLER ATTEMPTS TO CLOSE THE GAP AS THE SEASON WINDS DOWN! Lake Geneva, WI - Defending track championship Ken Johnson of Paddock Lake was back in his own Herbs mini modified and won the 15 lap feature by nearly a quarter lap over his competition. At the start, Jeff Schultz moved in front of the mini modified feature with Tim Castle and Bruce Brandenburger next. Quickly Ken Johnson who started near the rear of the field was coming on strong taking over the top spot on lap two. Schultz held onto second until lap seven when Joe Miller moved past. Roy Morrison in his sons mount didnt let Miller out of his sights taking over second on lap nine. The race went to Johnson nearly a straightaway ahead as Miller held onto second with Schultz Mike VanHouten and Bill Trusky completing the top five. Click here to see the race results ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- August 17, 2001 MILLER CAPTURES THIRD FEATURE WIN, WITH ROOKIE BILL TRUSKY IN A CLOSE SECOND AND HIS FIRST HEAT WIN! Lake Geneva, WI - Joe Miller of Kenosha won another Herbs mini modified 15 lap feature with a last lap at the wire thrilling victory. The program was marred by a first lap accident in the mini modified heat when Glen Vernezze got hooked with Duck Wack with both cars smashing hard into the wall. Both drivers were shook up but not seriously injured both cars however received extensive damage. Jeff Schultz flew in front of the mini modified feature with Bill Trusky and Rich Musgrave next. Ken Johnson worked on Musgrave three laps before getting round him. Quickly Hermie Schultz followed Johnson with Joe Miller next. It was a tight field with everyone waiting for a mistake. Trusky moved along side the leader on lap five but could not hold on to the top spot as they diced for the front spot. Trusky grabbed the lead on lap seven and started to move away from the field but Johnson got round Schultz one lap later and the chase was on. With five laps to go it was now getting crowded at the front with Johnson, J.Schultz Miller and Roy Morrison now fifth all after the leader. It wasnt until the third to the last lap before Miller would get past J.Schultz and Johnson. It looked like time would run out any challenge but with just one lap to go Miller was closing in on Trusky. Coming off turn two it was a dead heat going into three Trusky still looked like hed pull off his first win. Coming out of turn four the pair was dead even again at at the wire Miller nipped Trusky for his third win of the season. Trusky held onto to second with Johnson at his side Morrison was next with Jeff Schultz holding onto fifth. Click here to see the race results --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- August 10, 2001 VANHOUTEN WINS FIRST CAREER FEATURE RACE AND MOVES INTO THIRD PLACE OVERALL! Lake Geneva, WI - Mike VanHouten of Cary,IL. won his first career feature race in the 15 lapper holding the top spot every lap. One of the best features of the night was the mini modifieds even though Mike VanHouten moved from row two and into the lead all in the first lap. Quickly Hermie Schultz shot along side the leader with Bill Trusky and Duck Wack in hot pursuit. On lap four first last weeks feature winner Joe Miller started his quest forward first getting past Wack, then Schultz as Trusky moved into second. Within a few laps there were two drivers knocking on the leaders door starting a new three deep battle up front. There was no room for mistakes as Ken Johnson in the Glen Verneeze mount looked for an opening. Fast time qualifier Scott Kuxhouse followed Johnsons every move.Up front VanHouten was holding a slim advantage over the field. With the two laps to go signal the race was for any of six positions, as VanHouten held the point for the win over Miller, Johnson and Kuxhouse nipped Trusky at the wire as the top five finished under a blanket.

Lake Geneva, WI - Joe Miller of Kenosha returned to the winners circle for his second 15 lap Herbs mini modified feature in a row. Hermie Schultz grabbed the lead of the mini modified feature after starting in the front row outside. Bill Trusky worked on the leader three laps before moving in front.Mike Heuss returned after a few weeks away but was having good lucky on the day before a full moon.Glen Verneeze tried to get around Schultz but Joe Miller stepped in front of him to gain third with Trusky taking over the lead on lap four. It was extremely close with Miller moving around Schultz on lap six. Phil Schultz was in brother Jeffs mount just waiting for a mistake by Verneeze. If anything was going to happen with the close competition it would take out the field. On lap nine Miller moved in on Trusky with Ken Johnson pulling off a slick move to take over third before that lap ended.Miller knew it was now or never and crept around Trusky. The next five laps were too close to call as Miller held on for the win. Johnson nipped Trusky for second with Hermie Schultz next and Verneeze on his tail for fifth.

Lake Geneva, WI. - The mini modified feature was close as Jeff Schultz in his first week back grabbed the lead at the off set of the main event. Hermie Schultz, Jeffs father moved from second row outside and into second at the end of lap one. Duck Wack and Rich Musgrave were next as the leader pulled ahead of the field by lap four holding a comfortable margin to the pack. Bill Trusky moved into third after a good battle with Wack. Joe Miller who started near the rear of the field was up to fourth challenging Trusky for his spot. It was a three way fight for that front spot as Jeff Schultz held the advantage. Scott Kuxhouse in for the vacationing Ken Johnson mount was now fourth on lap nine waiting for a mistake from the threesome. Miller inched ahead of Hermie and then before the lap ended into the lead after the leader ever so slightly slowed. A new three way battle developed with just three laps to go but Miller held on for the win as Kuxhouse edged Hermie Schultz for second Trusky was fourth with Lee Morrison taking fifth in a close non-stop event. Lake Geneva, WI. - It was a hot humid night with the heat index at 105 but a good size crowd came out at Lake Geneva Raceway Friday night to see some great racing action. Paddock Lake driver Doctor Tooth Ken Johnson continued to dominate the Herbs mini modifieds after taking fast time,winning his heat and the 15 lap feature race. Johnson said I put brand new tires on, the first lap of qualifying felt like on was on ice, but the secondwas great. I thought time would run out in my heat and the feature before I could get the car to work right. Joe Miller paced the field in the mini modified feature with Rich Musgrave, Duck Wack and Bill Trusky next. The top threesome diced and battle for the front spot,with Musgrave taking over on lap three. But Miller would have no part of being second moving back in front for the next three laps. Then It was Musgrave back on top at the half way point. The side by side show was all the way to the back as the next lap Miller and Musgrave were a dead heat for first. With the five lap signal given Miller was again out front. One lap later Glen Verneeze and Mike VanHouten slipped past Musgrave with Johnson fourth with three laps to go. It would be a wild one lap dash as Johnson crept to the outside of the racing threesome. Coming out of turn two Johnson inched ahead and went on to win over Miller, Verneeze, VanHouten and Musgrave. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- July 13, 2001 KEN JOHNSON WON HIS FOURTH STRAIGHT 15 LAP FEATURE, WITH CALLS FOR A BOUNTY ON THE DEFENDING CHAMPION! Duck Wack who started third row outside flew in front of the mini modified feature before one lap was completed. Joe Miller, Roy Morrison and Hermie Schultz put a show on for second with a tight field behind them.After dicing for nine laps Schultz just slipped his way into second when Ken Johnson crept along side. Before the lap was over it was a three deep battle for the lead. The crowd went wild as Wack and Schultz were in a dead heat in turn two with Johnson just afew inches behind. One lap later Johnson came in front with just four laps to go. At the wire Johnson was nearly five lengths ahead with Schultz second, Wack hung on for third, with Mike Van Houton putting on a successful late charge for fourth, Jim Morrison was fifth and Miller sixth. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ July 6, 2001 JOHNSON TAKES OVER THE MINI MOD POINT LEAD WITH THIRD FEATURE WIN!! Lake Geneva, WI. - Defending champion Dr.Tooth Ken Johnson out of Paddock Lake won his third straight 15 lap feature race at Lake Geneva Raceway Friday night in front of a good crowd. With the win Johnson takes over the point lead for the first time this season holding a twenty five point advantage with. Just over half the season completed. Jeff Schultz slipped in front of the mini modified feature with Jay Harpster all over the leader. By lap four it was a side by side dice for the top spot. For the next seven laps the race was for the top spot with Ken Johnson and Mike VanHouten just looking for a weak spot in the link. As the field tightened Harspter finally secured the lead on lap twelve with new comer Joe Marinello getting lapped as half the field passed him by. With this happening Harspter now had Johnson at his right side. Joining the fight at the top Glen Verneeze got under Schultz with three laps to go. The crowd went wild as the white flag was displayed. It was anyones race but the three time champion showed what he was made of, nipping Harspter and Verneeze at the wire. Joe Miller was fourth with Schultz and Duck Wack completing the top six in a close contest that ran non-stop. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- June, 22, 2001 KEN JOHNSON WON HIS SECOND 15 LAP FEATURE IN A ROW! Lake Geneva, WI - Glen Verneeze paced the field of the mini modified feature as Duck Wack remained second. Smoothly running through the pack Ken Johnson was on a mission steaming out front by lap eight. It was a close event with Johnson just in front of Rich Musgrave, Joe Miller, Verneeze and Jeff Schultz. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- June 8, 2001 "DR. TOOTH KEN JOHNSON BROKE THE WINNING STREAK RICH MUSGRAVE ESTABLISHED BY WINNING THE 15 LAP FEATURE RACE! Lake Geneva, WI. - This was the first win of the season for the defending champion, Ken Johnson, who took fast time and second in the dash. Just as the green appeared in the mini modified feature, Bruce Brandenburger dropped out with problems with Hermie Schultz out front for the first four laps. Joe Miller grabbed the top spot for lap five, before Ken Johnson slipped in front. The race was not over as Rich Musgrave chased Miller for the next five laps, securing second with nine laps to go. The challenge never came as Johnson cruised to small win margin. Musgrave was second, with third. Glen Verneeze was fourth and Duck Wack fifth at his side. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- May 25, 2001 "RACIN" RICH MUSGRAVE MADE IT TWO IN A ROW IN THE 15 LAP FEATURE RACE, AFTER HIS FIRST CAREER VICTORY LAST WEEK! Lake Geneva, WI - Mike Van Houton barged out of the second row to slip into the lead of the mini modified feature with Joe Miller in second. On lap three something happened to defending champion Ken Johnson's mount as he retired to the pits for the remainder of the event. Second in time Rich Musgrave darted around traffic and looked to Van Houten's front position. On lap four there was a new leader but not the end of a close race. The action slowed on lap eight as rookie Jay Harpster had problems. On the next green Miller flew past Van Houton but the leader was up for the challenge. Musgrave held on for the win, with Miller, Van Houton and Duck Wack in a very tight formation. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- May 18, 2001 Lake Geneva, WI - Winning the Herb's Mini Modified 15 lap feature was racing Rich Musgrave in a close battle with defending champion Ken Johnson who took second in the event. Musgrave took the lead on lap three of the contest, finishing just in front of a charging pack. Joe Miller was third, with Duck Wack, runner up last season, fourth.
